BARTON TOWN CRICKET CLUB 1st X1 v Broughton on Sat 27 Jun 2009 at 13.00 pm
BARTON TOWN CRICKET CLUB Won by 4 wickets
Match report
After a great victory away at Horncastle, it was important to get another win against Broughton.
The sun was shining an the Barton ground looking in fantastic condition, once again a big thankyou goes out to Alan and Teg.
After a visit of a pitch consultant visit a couple of weeks ago, Al and Teg changed the way they previously had done the tracks so we all eagerly awaited the outcome of their hard work.
The toss was won by Broughton and they elected to bat, we would have bowled by the way due to the expected thunderstorm.
As Barton took to the field there was an air of confidence in the camp, even though the team it self had changed since the previous game, Kipling on holiday, JVB still on the beer at Uni and Bartons resident wedding crashers Will and Foz yet again at another wedding. Still with the missing players Al, Teg and Mark stepped upto the plate and filled the gaps created. I'll take this point to comment on two youngsters who failed to take their opportunity of 1st X1 selection due to their inabilities to handle their ale the night before, making themselves unavailable on the morning of the game. They will learn that when them beer monkey's come out at night and s**t down their throats making them feel like death warmed up, that many a player has played through this and performed out of their skins, notably a fine 170 odd not out by Dan Davis after a major bender with Mellors the day/night before, (Mellors scored 80 odd and took a few wickets also).
Back to the game.
Mellors and the returning Paul "BABY" Bell opened the bowling. The bowling from Bell was a pleasure to watch, bowling it the right area and asking constant questions to the opening batsmen. Whilst I don't have the pleasure in watching myself bowl, but having watched the magnificent Bob Davis over the years bowling his medium/slow pace with accuracy, guille, movement both ways and sublime changes of pace. This of course Bob did with consumate ease, I on the other hand have one golden rule and that is " IF I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE BALL IS GOING TO DO THEN THE BATSMEN HVE NO CHANCE". It's amazing how I've blagged this now for over 20 years and hopefully for the next 20 or so years. I have started to stock up on bandages for the years to come but have put dibbs on Birchy and Al's creams, potions and wraps when they. Anyway back to the calls of "well bowled Bobby D" and "bowling two Jags", I would like to say hear and now that it's more like two fags than two Jags
Once again back to the game.
A few wickets started to fall and all of a sudden the shirt fronter they started on became, in their eyes a mine field. It simply didn't and to sum up the game, because as I have just noticed, the time it has taken to write this, we could have played them all over againand possibly a game after that.
In summary WE WERE GOOD AND THEY WERE **** (fill in the blanks, but due to this being a family site I suggest POOR)
Quick note to any lads from Saturday opposition, on leaving one of you was heard to say "Lets get out of this S***hole". Well in reply to that, get back to your clubhouse and have a beer in your bar and think about us sipping winners ale in ours. Oops sorry you can't as you haven't one, so go play on your swing's and slide and drink some Diamond White.(other ciders are available)
