Under 11s Win a Thriller – Back-to-Back Victories!
Haxey: 264 for 2 (Nett 248)Barton: 286 for 4 (Nett 254)
Wednesday evening saw the Under 11s take the long trip to Haxey on a cold and blustery night. Skipper George won the toss and wisely chose to bowl first, making the most of the slightly warmer early innings conditions.
The Haxey batters were disciplined and resilient, facing some excellent pace bowling from George (3 overs for 5), Will (3 for 1), Joe B (2 for 5), and Jack (2 for 7). Breakthroughs came courtesy of Joe B and Jack, each picking up a wicket. One of the highlights was Joe B’s superb catch behind the stumps off a rising delivery from Jack—real commitment! Both wicketkeepers, Jack and Joe B, were once again outstanding with the gloves.
In reply, Haxey bowled with control and made Barton work for every run. Will and Jack opened confidently, taking the score to 208. Next up, Lucy and Lowan added a crucial +18, lifting us to 226 at the halfway mark. Then came Joe T and Bailey, who dug in against some quality bowling to edge Barton up to 234. Finally, it was left to skipper George and “Boom Boom” Joe B to bring it home.
With Haxey saving their best bowlers for the last pair, the pressure was on—but our final duo didn’t disappoint. George and Joe B showed intent, positivity, and fearless running between the wickets. Joe smashed 14 runs, George added 12, and the Barton fans—huddled in coats, hats, gloves, and blankets—erupted in celebration as the team sealed a thrilling win!
That makes it 5 wins from 5 for the Barton juniors—an incredible start to the season. Next up, a home clash with App Frod on May 20th.
Brilliant stuff, team—keep the momentum going! 🏏🔥

Tuesday night brought a local derby as the U13s travelled to Alkborough—and what a contest it turned out to be!
Alkborough won the toss and sent Barton in to bat. Openers Harvey (14 not out) and Malachy got the innings off to a flying start, with Harvey crashing three boundaries. Debutants Jasper (1 for 12) and Alfie (1 for 14) also chipped in with key wickets. With Alkborough needing 9 from the final over, Harvey returned to bowl a nerveless final six balls—conceding just 3 runs and grabbing his fourth wicket to seal the win!
Special mention to captain Lily, who kept calmly behind the stumps and pulled off a smart stumping off Jasper’s bowling.
