Junior Vikings Deliver Thrills and Titles!

Junior Vikings Deliver Thrills and Titles! 🤩

What a week for Barton Town CC's junior teams! From nail-biting finishes to dominant victories and even a back-to-back league title, our young Vikings are truly making us proud! Let's dive into all the action!

Under 11s: A Friday Fight, A Tuesday Triumph! 💪

It was a mixed bag for our Under 11s this week, but they finished on a high note with a fantastic win!

Friday, June 20th: App Frod 310 for 3 (Nett 286) Beat Barton Town 265 for 8 (Nett 201)

A tough night at Brumby Hall saw us fall to defeat for the second time this season against a very strong App Frod team. The Title Challengers put on a powerful batting display, finishing on 310 for 3, with our bowlers finding it tough to make inroads. Opening bowler Will claimed 1 for 6, and Lucy followed up her brilliant display last week against Broughton by taking another 2 wickets for only 4 runs – incredible consistency, Lucy! 🌟

Despite a good, steady start by Will and Jack, wickets fell at regular intervals, keeping us well behind the required rate. A true Skipper's knock by George, with 15 off 12 balls including three fours, saw us finish well-beaten but still positively at 201. Onwards and upwards!

Tuesday, June 24th: Barton Town 324 for 3 (Nett 300) Beat Louth 262 for 12 (Nett 166)

What a difference a few days make! A brilliant all-round display in the sunshine on Tuesday saw a massive 134-run win for Barton, reinforcing our 3rd place in the league! This is the kind of performance that gets you cheering! 🥳

Will (7) and Jack (19) got us off to a flying start, putting on 35 for the first pair, with both boys showing brilliant running between the wickets. Jack hit some wonderful shots, finding the boundary three times! Another cracking +28 partnership saw Lucy (14) and Rueben come to the crease, again showcasing how to run brilliantly between the wickets – well done, guys! Against some good, pacey bowling, Joe B (22) and Ted progressed the innings further to a big 279 with four overs to go. Joe hit four fours in a typically aggressive innings. Captain George (16) treated us to even more great shots, hitting three fours, including a superb loft over mid-wicket – quality stuff, Skipper! 🙌 Along with the ever-reliable Joe T, the score finished on a fantastic 324 for 3, even more pleasing that 84 runs came off the Barton bats. Power hitting at its best!

A rare wicketless spell for our opening seam bowlers saw Louth get off to a decent start at 212 after the first pair. But if Louth thought there might be a sniff of making the game close, then Lucy and Jack had other ideas! They bowled with pace and accuracy to take an impressive 6 wickets, reducing our visitors to 174 after the 8th over. Louth fought hard to overcome the brilliant Barton attack; however, another six wickets fell to keep the score pegged back, eventually finishing on 262 for 12 (164). Another 2 wickets for Rueben in a great 3-over spell, and Joe B followed up his 22 with the bat to take 3 for 6, clean bowling the batsman on each occasion! Paceman Jack again produced a hostile spell and returned quality figures of 3 for 7, including a good caught and bowled. Leading the line for the third game running was Lucy, who in another devastating spell returned figures of 4 for 5 in 3 overs! This gives Lucy the incredible figures in the last three games of 7 overs, 2 maidens, 14 runs, and 10 WICKETS! Absolutely fantastic bowling, Lucy! 🤯

Well done, everyone, brilliant cricket as always! UTV!

Under 13s: Last-Over Thriller! 🤯

Monday, June 23rd: Outcasts 294 for 3 (Nett 270) Beat Barton Town 304 for 5 (Nett 264)

A tight game at the lovely venue of Hirst Priory saw a clinical display by the home side come out on top. 64 runs off the bat saw Megan (16) and Harvey (15) top score. A really good start from Mal and Harvey, putting on +23, only hampered by a "worldy" of a catch on the boundary to dismiss Harvey in the 4th over – tough luck, Harvey! 😩 Lily and Alfie lost a couple of wickets but fought back for parity at the halfway stage on 223. Sam, with his best innings of the season, hit a wonderful cover drive for four, and he was ably supported by George in a plus 20 partnership. Last up saw Megan and Jasper (7) take us to a healthy 304 for 5 (264). Without a doubt, the score would have been much nearer 300 but for some fantastic fielding and catching from the Outcasts team, who were very impressive.

At the 8-over point, three wickets taken saw us have our hosts at 214, with WinViz pointing towards a Vikings victory as Harvey took 1 for 17. We had a run out for George, who was brilliant in the field all evening and claimed another direct hit! While Mal and Lily combined well to run out a home batter. However, two great partnerships of 25 and 31 saw Outcasts claim victory in the last over and take the 3 points. A truly nail-biting finish! 😬

A really good game with both sides showing their talent for all aspects of cricket, well done all! UTV!

Under 16s: Back-to-Back Champions! 🏆🥳

No game for our Under 16s this week, but as the League fixtures came to a close on Wednesday, June 26th, Barton Town CC found themselves at the top of the table to claim back-to-back league titles! 🎉 Well done to all who have played this season, we are all incredibly proud of you! To finish off the season, we have a couple of supplementary fixtures on July 9th and 16th, with opposition and venues to be confirmed.

UTV!
