Junior Match Reports

Monday 28th

Under 13’s

Monday saw the Under 13’s make the short trip to Alkborough for a friendly match , and despite some good aggressive cricket come away empty handed . Ben opted to bat 1st and despite some attacking shots and nifty running which saw up score an excellent 73 runs off the bat and 91 in total , the loss of 8 wickets saw us finish on a Nett 227 . Oscar Blackburn (11) and Theo Flowers (11no) got us off to a positive start and they were followed by Spencer Leaning (9) and Olly Small (7) . Rob Southee (15) hit some lusty blows in partnership with George Vickers (4) . Last pair Ben Andrew ( 5no) and Nathaniel Bowm (10) took the score from 208 up to a respectable 227 . A very entertaining innings to watch . In reply the torrential down pour didn’t help us one bit with a bar of soap to bowl with , however nothing can be taken away from Alkborough’s opening bat who crashed the ball viciously into the leg side for a huge 38 not out and a match winning innings . We stuck to our task as best we could but despite wickets for Oscar Blackburn , Rob Southee , and Olly Small as well as a wonderful running catch by Theo Flowers our hosts ran out winners at 97 for 3 to finish on Nett 274.

Under 11’s – Last ball win in Heslam Park Thriller !

Wednesday saw our U11’s play undoubtedly one of the closest and best games you could want to see in a very evenly matched encounter with Scunthorpe Town . Barton batted 1st and excellent batting and running saw us score 67 for 5 to finish on 227 . Will and Harvey got us off to the usual good start and they were backed up well by the dependable Lily and Finners . Megan and debutant Chris (5) played some lovely shots and the real entertainment came from the 4th pair of Captain Lucas with a brilliant batting display scoring 20 including 3 fours , ably supported by George 6 not out . Tight bowling and good fielding saw us take wickets at regular intervals early on in Scunthorpe’s reply however our hosts fought back to ensure a nail biting finish . Needing 14 off the last over Barton looked comfortable , however some great batting saw 2 boundaries hit back to back leaving Scunthorpe needing 2 to draw of the last ball . Lucas held his nerve to fire in a delivery that was well kept out but as they attempted the runs they needed Lucas retrieved the ball and a direct hit saw us home for a brilliant win – Well played both teams who deservedly left the field to rapturous applause from a good sized crowd . Wickets for Lucas 1 for 13 , Will 1 for 8 , George 1 for 9 , Fin 1 for 9 and Harvey with a crucial 2 for 5
