Under 11’s
Tuesday saw our Under 11’s looking to make it back to back wins as they entertained Scunthorpe Town . An entertaining game which was close all the way through saw some excellent Scunthorpe bowling in the last pair take 3 wickets and the match honours .
Our bowlers were on top form as we kept Scunthorpe to 234 by taking 5 wickets . Harvey continued his good form with 1 for 5 , Henry was excellent taking 1 for 7 and Megan claimed 1 for 24 from 3 overs . Captain Lily returned the impressive figures of 2 for 8 , including being on a hat trick. George made his debut an bowled brilliantly with his 3 overs only going for 11 runs whilst Toby took a good catch on his debut. Only 8 wides bowled in 16 overs was a great improvement so well done to all. In reply the run chase was close all the way through thanks to Megan (6) and Fin B (8) whilst George and Toby put on 17 to keep us in the game . However it wasn’t to be and 3 late wickets saw us close on 209 . Another good display as this young group continue to develop nicely . UTV

Our 1st game this week saw us beat the weather and enjoy a superb game away at Messingham on Monday . A much bigger and powerful home side attacked from the start scoring 122 runs from their 16 overs . However our young Vikings stood tall and produced one of the best fielding displays I have seen for a long time to claim 9 wickets . Catches by Olly , Beno and an absolute corker from Will were complimented by 2 from Spence who had a great game behind the stumps. Olly also claimed 2 excellent run outs . Wickets were taken by Lucas with 2 for 11 , Will 2 for 15 , Theo 2 for 21 and Beno 1 for 18 leaving Messingham with a competitive 250 . A great start to our reply as Theo smoked the 1st ball for a massive 6 on his way to 15 as he and Olly got the chase underway . Will and Alex S were brilliant as they added 18 to take us to 221 at halfway. Despite Spence with 10 not out, 2 wickets in the 3rd pair saw us enter the last 4 overs on 223 needing 28 for victory . Showing composure beyond their years , Captain Beno (12no) and the dependable Lucas (5no) saw us home against some hostile bowling to put on plus 29 and a winning score of 252 . A brilliant game in which we showed skill in all aspects of the game along with bravery , determination and composure – Well Done Guys – UTV
Our 2nd game of the week saw a double header (County Cup Quarter Final too) as top of the table Normanby Park hosted the now 2nd place Vikings. A strong and powerful home side hit the ball well and ran superbly as they finished on 282 , losing only 3 wickets in the process. Theo continued his good season as he claimed 2 for 26 from his 3 and Spinner Beno 1 for 11 from 3. 282 was always going to be a mountain to climb and in our reply clusters of wickets saw us starring down the barrel of a large defeat . In fairness the Normanby bowling was excellent and gave us little to work with. Only Beno with 14 not out came to terms with the home attack as 12 wickets lost saw us close Barton on 150 . A tough night but we will bounce back I’m sure in next weeks games – UTV

Finally a game for our older group as we made the short trip to Alkborough for a rearranged fixture. On a damp and spongy pitch run scoring was always going to be difficult and the opportunity to score from correct shots at a premium. Captain Anneka applied herself brilliantly to bat through for 25 but in all honesty we found the going tough to finish on 49 for 6. Paceman Josh removed one of the home dangermen in the 1st over to give us hope, however some strong shots square of the wicket saw Alkborough’s other key batsman score a match winning 26 not out. Star bowlers though were Will who bowled miserly only going for 5 runs from 3 overs whilst left arm seamer George bowled 2 over for 2 runs . Plenty to work on as the fixtures should start to come again now exams are coming to an end - UTV
