Our young guns made the short trip to Broughton to start their season . After being put into bat some brilliant running and calling saw Will ( 8 no ) and Harvey get off to a flyer . Lily and Megan then continued the start with Lily’s excellent cover drive for 4 helping see us to 225 at the halfway stage . Henry and Alex kept out some excellent bowling on 3rd and a mixture of runs and wickets saw an entertaining last pair of Captain Lucas ( 9 ) and George saw us close on a respectable 213 .
In reply Broughton batted very well only losing 3 wickets to finish on an impressive 271 although with 1 pair to go the game was still in the balance at 240 so credit to our hosts for their strong finish . All bowlers can take credit for their performances , with Lucas and Will both taking wickets and Harvey bowling 2 overs for just a miserly 3 runs and Lily 2 overs for 7 . Will completed an excellent game by claiming a direct hit run out too ! Special mention to both George for an outstanding game in the field and to Megan for a very tidy performance behind the stumps .
As with the under 15s this is a good learning year for much of this young side (and squad) and the positive cricket they played holds them in good stead for the season ahead . Well done everyone 👏
