We kicked off our season on a chilly Tuesday night at home to a strong Broughton outfit . After inserting Broughton to bat we fought hard to keep the runs down as our visitors hit the ball hard and punished anything loose . Josh Portas bowled with pace and accuracy in an excellent opening spell of 4 overs for 19 runs and he was ably supported by Mitch Goldby with 1 for 19 from 3 and Spinner Ben Andrew taking 1 for 18 from his 3 overs . Ted Bedwell claimed the other wicket to fall in the last over seeing Broughton finish on 116 for 3 from their 16 overs . In the face of some powerful hitters we performed well especially taking into consideration the freezing temperatures alongside a 1st experience of bowling in a match off the full 22 yards and with and adult ball . I promise it will get warmer 🤞 .
In reply a terrible start saw us 4 for 3 with our most experienced batsmen back on the sidelines . However man of the match Josh Portas played an intelligent , responsible innings backed up by Oscar Blackburn and Cain Archer to see us finish on 47 for 7 in the fast fading light . A tough game to start what will be a learning curve of a season with a young squad , however the fight shown not to fold when we easily could have alongside this squads undoubted talent holds us in good stead for the season.
