RIP Bob Welton

Barton Town CC is saddened to announce the passing of Bob Welton, the Lincs League Cricket Chairman for more than 27 years. His loss will be felt by not only his family, but the wider cricketing fraternity, in Lincolnshire and beyond.

He will be remembered for his utter devotion to local cricket and the administration of the same. He had worked tirelessly to maintain a level and standard of cricket that all the clubs in Lincolnshire benefited from and can be proud of. A character that can best be described as uncompromising at times, nobody can doubt his commitment and good intentions.

Every Saturday of the cricket season he would try and get to 2 grounds to catch the matches and perhaps more importantly catch up with dear friends and acquaintances.

Our very own Director of Cricket at Barton, Jeremy Evans, was a close friend and was honoured and privileged to be one of the limited people who could visit Bob at the Hospice at St Andrew’s, Grimsby. We can therefore inform everyone with confidence that Bob’s sense of humour remained in tact to the very end and that all the messages sent by clubs, by letter and text, were received and very much appreciated by Bob.

He leaves a much loved son, Guy, and daughter, Charlotte. If clubs feel it appropriate then it would be Bob’s wishes that donations be made to the hospice that cared for him in his final days.

Mr Bob Welton, we thank you and you will be missed. Rest in peace.

20/10/48 - 9/1/21 - 72 years of age.
